Our campaign is strongly supported by the two-time Olympic vice-champion Maja Włoszczowska and Bartosz Huzarski together with his Huzar Bike Academy.
The goal of this non-profit campaign is to improve road safety and increase the comfort of cyclists. Importantly, it is not directed against drivers. The organizers just want to draw their attention to the fact that holding an appropriate distance while overtaking and being cautious can affect the clear improvement of the relationship between the two groups. So that cyclists become full-fledged road users.
The „150 centimeters” campaign is supported by the largest cycling brand in Poland KROSS and Maja Włoszczowska from the Kross Racing Team, which became its ambassador. In her opinion, the mutual driving culture between drivers and cyclists in Poland has significantly improved in recent years. And there is a good chance for further progress.
– Of course, we are far from the Netherlands or Italy. There, as they are bothering me, it is with greetings and not with pretensions in style, as I dare to occupy a piece of asphalt. For sure, the more people will ride bicycles, the faster this culture will change. The driver, switching to the car, during the next meeting with the cyclist can imagine himself on a bike and I am sure that he will give up immediately – says Maja Włoszczowska. – For sure we need solid campaigns informing about the rights of cyclists on the roads and the need of mutual respect. But also making cyclists aware that they are also bound by traffic regulations, which many people forget about – he emphasizes.
The postulate of „1.5 m” on their shirts was also put on this season by an outstanding former professional cyclist Bartosz Huzarski and his students from the Huzar Bike Academy. – In Poland, the law clearly states that a vehicle selling a cyclist must keep at least a meter distance. Every shorter distance is dangerous, especially for an inexperienced cyclist. The turbulence of the air and the nearness of the car itself may cause him panic and result in a catastrophe. In the academy, we signal on our clothes 1.5 meters. Fighting for this is a good chance that we will get at least one meter – explains Huzarski.
